03.12.2014: OAK Racing Team Total ASIAN LE MANS SERIES Round 4 – 3 HOURS OF SEPANG, MALAYSIA – 7 December 2014

OAK Racing Team Total

After scoring three consecutive victories and pulling out a lead of 40 points in the overall general classification OAK Racing Team Total has nothing left to prove in the Asian Le Mans Series. However, the French squad is all the more determined to rack up another win with its Morgan-Judd LM P2 in the Sepang 3 Hours. To achieve this it has entered a 100% Chinese driver line-up for the final round as Yuan Bo is joining Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng.

So far this year the OAK Racing Team Total no. 1 Morgan-Judd LM P2 has had a perfect run in the Asian Le Mans Series.

After the first three rounds of the season, the team’s scorecard reads three consecutive victories and two pole positions in the championship giving the French squad a 40-point lead in the overall classification and the title for the second year running.

To end the season with a flourish the team from Le Mans is determined to score yet another victory by clinching first place in the Sepang 3 Hours.

Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng have a solid lead in the drivers’ ratings thanks to their three wins at Inje, Fuji and Shanghai. For the final round they have a new team-mate, Yuan Bo.

Bo is more used to single-seaters as he has raced in the European Formula Renault and Formula Chinese Masters Series in which he made a name for himself as the best Chinese driver; he will make his debut at the wheel of an LM P2 at Sepang.

He will be able to take advantage of the advice of his team-mates and use the free practice sessions to rack up as many laps as possible in the no. 1 Morgan-Judd LM P2 shod with Michelin tyres.

Thus, Yuan Bo becomes the sixth Chinese driver to whom OAK Racing Team Total has given the opportunity to race in LM P2 in the last two years. This initiative shows the French team’s determination to create a hotbed of talent in endurance whose drivers can use the Asian Series as a stepping stone to the legendary Le Mans 24 hours.

This year the Sarthe-based outfit finished the race in seventh place in LM P2 with three Chinese drivers at the wheel of the new Ligier JS P2: the very quick Ho-Pin Tung, David Cheng who has shined in the Asian series with the team in the last two years as well as scoring a top-3 finish in the FIA WEC, and Adderly Fong who recently had a test with the Sauber F1 squad.

Ho Pin-Tung
: “Even though we have already clinched the Asian Le Mans Series 2014 championship, we will be as motivated as ever. Pole position and the win are our only targets for this weekend. At the same time I would like to welcome Yuan Bo, another Chinese driver, to our team. It shows the progress and interest in endurance racing in China, which have grown rapidly over the past few years.”

David Cheng: “I'm really looking forward to the final race of the Asian LMS season having already wrapped up the championship with Ho-Pin. Our goal for this weekend will only be focused on the race itself. Without the pressure of the championship this year, unlike 2013, for sure we can be more aggressive.

Sepang is a very long and complex circuit and at this time of year the weather is always unpredictable, but I know our OAK Racing Team Total is always well prepared, and I’m sure come rain or come shine our Michelin slicks or wets will be up to the task.

As well I'm looking forward to welcoming Bob (Yuan Bo) as our third teammate for the final round. I raced against him before when we were competing in the VW Scirocco Cup China as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, and I’m looking forward to working with him in this race.”

Yuan Bo: “I'm very excited at joining OAK Racing Team Total in the final round of the Asian Le Mans Series. This will be my first time at the wheel of an LMP2 car and I can't wait to find out what the power and downforce feel like. I have raced many times at Sepang in Formula Masters China this year and look forward to tackling this circuit in something faster.

Also I'm delighted to share the car with David Cheng whom I've driven against in many different series throughout Asia, as well as Ho-Pin whom I've seen around the paddock. Watching them tackle LM24 was very exciting and I'm very proud to be joining this team and I hope to have a chance at LM24 in the future. “
